car seats
A: First, please consult your car seat owner’s manual to determine if there is another mode of your car seat that can be used. If not, then it is time to move your child to their next seat. Once any limit is met, that mode is considered outgrown.
A: Hand wash with a sponge, and warm soapy water. Allow to dry. Do not soak or completely wet the harness.
A: Most Joie car seats with a rear-facing mode come with an infant insert, typically with a low birth weight pillow included. Please make sure you are using both to eliminate any gap and avoid slouching. If the gap still exists, you may use a small washcloth sized towel to fill the gap. After your child is snugly harnessed in their seat (straps pass the pinch test), place the rolled washcloth in between baby’s bottom and the crotch buckle strap to fill the gap.
A: Some movement is normal with the rigid UAS connectors. This is due to the UAS connectors being in different spots in different vehicles, and has been accounted for in testing the car seat.
A: Car seats, and particularly those with a separate base, may make some noise when being transported unoccupied. Please check your car seat over to ensure that the seat is installed properly on your vehicle seat, and there aren’t any crumbs or debris stuck in a portion of the seat such as the headrest, harness adjuster, or other moving elements of your car seat. You can vacuum out the seat as needed. If the issue still persists, please call our Customer Service at +1(866) 798-7866 for assistance.
A: Universal anchors may be in different spots in different vehicles. Some are sticking out of the seat, and others may be deep within the crease. Your mint UAS may have a gap at the foot of the seat, and based on the location of the vehicle's universal anchors, the size of the gap may vary. The size of the gap does not affect how your seat will perform in a crash test. If visually you are uneasy about the gap, you can take a rolled up towel or blanket and put it between the vehicle seat and the foot of the car seat.
A: The retractable UAS connectors keep the booster seat secure in your vehicle when your child is not in it. A 3-point seatbelt is required to properly buckle your child in the seat. UAS connecters for basil are not a means of installation.
A: There is no installation difference. Both methods of installation are safe and have been tested and pass the CMVSS 213 standards. As you install your car seat you may find the ease of use of one easier or harder than the other depending on vehicle and ability. The Vehicle Seat Belt can hold a higher weight limit than the Universal Anchorage system. The vehicle's Universal Anchorage System can only hold a maximum of 65 pounds TOTAL. This is calculated by adding the child's weight + weight of the car seat. (Consult instruction manual, ""Child Usage Requirements"" for details.) We have calculated this and provided this information on the labels and in the manual. Please refer to both your car seat manual and your vehicle manual for specific information.
A: The child's height cannot exceed 49 inches, with the harnesses place at or just above the shoulders.
A: The child's height cannot exceed 49 inches and and the top of the child's head must be at least 1 inch below the top of the carrier seat back.
A: When using this car seat always check the shoulder harness is at or below the child's shoulder and the top of the child's head must be at least 1 inch below the top of the carrier seat back.
A: All seats in the rear are safe if the child seat is installed correctly and you can install it correctly on every trip.
The discernment of “center is safest” originates from the center location being the farthest point from any intrusion into the passenger seating area during a crash. Generally, the safest location in the vehicle is the center rear of the vehicle. However, this is not always the case, the center seat may not be compatible with the seat you are using or there could be a practicality issue depending on your situation. An example would be: if you want the youngest in the center because its’ “the safest” but to get the baby in center you have to lift the infant carrier over the other seat or child. Or, It could be as simple as you are unable to install it as well in the center as you can on the sides. The center seating location is only the safest if you can use it correctly every time the child is in the vehicle. To say the center rear is the “safest” is not saying the other seating positions in the back are not safe, they are.
A: We recommend children ride rear-facing until they max out of the rear-facing limits of the seat (height or weight, whichever comes first). We can not recommend turning children forward facing until at least 2 years of age. Different provinces and territories have different laws regarding when you can turn a child forward facing. Please check with your province or territories' laws before turning your child.
A: Parents, it's crucial to ensure the safety of your children when it comes to car travel. Here are the steps to determine if your older child can safely ride without a booster seat:
1. Check that your child's knees bend comfortably at the edge of the seat with their feet flat on the floor.
2. Ensure that your child's bottom is all the way back in the seat.
3. Position the lap belt low on the hips, at the top of the thighs.
4. Verify that the shoulder belt crosses the collarbone.
5. Confirm that your child can remain seated like this for the entire ride.
Remember, don't rush to remove your child from a booster seat. Maximize the seat height and weight limits before making the transition out of a booster seat. These five steps provide guidance for when children can begin riding without a booster, rather than being a strict requirement for when they must stop using one. Your child's safety is the most important thing.
A: The basil™ can be used when the child outgrows their harnessed convertible car seat by weight and height, if they can sit with their back against the vehicle seat with their knees bent at the edge of the booster without slouching, and as long as they can sit properly restrained in the seat for long periods of time - and can do this every time.
Children must also meet all of the following criteria for a high back booster seat:
Their height is between 43-57 inches, and weight is between 40 lb.- 110 lb.
Children must meet all of the following criteria for no-back booster mode:
Their height is between 43-57 inches, and weight is between 40 lb. - 120 lb.
A: If your Joie car seat has multiple slots for the crotch buckle, please ensure that your child is using the position that is closest to their body without being underneath of them.
A: The infant insert must be removed at 11 lb. and if the harness straps are positioned ABOVE the child’s shoulders in the 2 lowest sets of harness slots. The harness must fall AT or BELOW the child’s shoulders. The head insert may be used or removed for improved comfort to child at any time.
A: At the belt path, which is where either the universal anchors, or the lap belt portion of the seatbelt is threaded through the seat. Your car seat should move less than 1” side-to-side or front-to-back when installed securely.
